Privacy and Personal Data
This page explains what happens to information about you when you read Wolfe & Lois or write to us. The short version is that we collect very little, and we have tried to keep it that way on purpose.
Last updated: October 2026.
Who is responsible
The journal is run by the small team described on About Wolfe & Lois. For any question about personal data, write to the address shown on our contact page.
A static site with no trackers
The journal is a set of ready-made pages. There are no user accounts, no comment forms, no newsletter sign-up, no advertising networks and no visitor analytics. We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting or social media widgets that report back to a third party. We have no profile of you and do not try to build one.
A single remembered answer on your device
When you first visit, a small notice asks for your cookie choice. Whatever you click, your answer is saved in your browser's local storage so that the notice does not reappear on every page. That entry stays on your device, is never sent to us and contains nothing except the choice itself. You can remove it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser settings; the notice will then simply ask again. More detail is on About Our Cookie Banner.
Technical logs on the hosting side
Like almost every website, the pages are delivered by a hosting provider whose servers keep short technical logs. These can include your IP address, the date and time of a request, the page requested, the browser type and the referring page. The logs exist to deliver pages, keep the service secure and investigate faults or abuse. We do not combine them with other information, and they are deleted on the provider's normal schedule. Our legal basis is a legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.
When you email us
An email to the journal brings us your address, any name you sign with and the words of the message itself. We use this only to read and reply to you, and to improve an article if you have pointed out a problem. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for that purpose and then delete it. Please do not send us detailed medical information; we cannot advise on personal health matters and would rather not hold such details. Our legal basis here is your consent and our legitimate interest in answering readers.
Sharing
Personal details never get sold, rented out or swapped with anyone. We share it only where the law requires us to, or with the service providers who make the site and our email work, who process it on our behalf.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:
- find out which details about you sit in our inbox and get a copy of them
- ask us to correct anything inaccurate
- have your messages and address erased
- object to a particular use, or ask that we limit it
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis
- raise a complaint with the national data protection regulator where you live
To use any of these rights, email us and we will respond within the time the law allows, normally one month.
Links to other websites
Now and then an article sends you on to a website we do not run. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control, so it is worth checking their policies when you visit.
Changes
If the way we handle data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. The Conditions for Readers cover the wider terms of using the site.
